Step 1: Shaft Length
Stand up straight and measure your height from the top of your head to the ground. Note this down as it will be one of the primary factors in selecting the correct length for your clubs.
Stand up straight with your arms relaxed at your sides. Use a tape measure to measure the distance from the floor to the crease in your wrist (where your hand meets your arm). Make sure to keep your posture neutral while doing this for the most accurate measurement.
Once you have both measurements, use the chart below to find the recommended golf club length that corresponds to your height and wrist-to-floor measurement.
Golf Club Length Chart (in Centimeters and in Men's length)
Height (cm) | Wrist-to-Floor Measurement (cm) | Recommended Golf Club Length |
---|---|---|
152 - 160 cm | 71 - 76 cm | 1 Inch Shorter Length |
160 - 168 cm | 76 - 81 cm | 1/2 Inch Shorter Length |
168 - 175 cm | 81 - 86 cm | Standard Length |
175 - 183 cm | 86 - 91 cm | Standard Length |
183 - 191 cm | 91 - 97 cm | Longer Length + 1/2 Inch |
191 - 198 cm | 97 - 102 cm | Longer Length + 1 Inch |
198 cm and above | 102 cm and above | Longer Length + 1.5 Inch |
Step 2: Shaft Flex
Use the chart below to find your recommended shaft flex based on your swing speed and typical ball flight or carry distance:
Shaft Flex Chart with Carry Distances (in Meters - Drivers)
Carry Distance 7 Iron |
Carry Distance Driver |
Recommended Shaft Flex |
---|---|---|
Less than 100 meters | Less than 150 meters | Ladies (L) |
100 - 120 meters | 150 - 175 meters | Senior (A) |
120 - 140 meters | 175 - 210 meters | Regular (R) |
140 - 160 meters | 210 - 250 meters | Stiff (S) |
Above 160 meters | More than 250 meters | Extra Stiff (X) |
How to Use the Chart:
- Estimate Your Ball Flight and Carry Distance: Use the chart as a guide, keeping in mind these are CARRY distances which does not include roll out. 7 irons generally stop quicker with less roll out than a driver would.
- Match the Data: Use your carry distance and the ball flight/carry distance characteristics to choose the appropriate shaft flex.
Step 3: Grip Size Recommendations Based on Glove Size
The following chart provides guidance on how to choose the correct grip size based on your glove size. Your glove size is a good indicator of your hand size, and it directly correlates with the grip size that will offer the most comfort and control during your swing.
Glove Size | Hand Size (inches around palm) | Recommended Grip Size |
---|---|---|
Ladies sizes | 8" - 8.5" | Undersize |
Mens Small (S) and Medium (M) | 8.5" - 9" | Standard (Standard Grip) |
Large (L) | 9" - 9.5" | Midsize Grip |
X-Large (XL) | 9.5" - 10" | Midsize Grip |
XX-Large (XXL) | 10" - 10.5" | Oversize Grip |
3X-Large (3XL) | 10.5" and above | Oversize Grip |
